I was raised being told by my parents that I could believe anything I wanted. And knowing what we know today, anyone in my situation would choose atheism. I bet you weren't allowed to choose your beliefs, i bet you were raised as a christian.

When you are raised to believe something, you're going to believe it, no matter how absurd it is. This is because your parents told you it was real, and it is followed by many.

Take santa for example. Every kid believes in him because they were told to believe and that he was real. There are plenty of books about him, so why isn't he real? It's because we learn it's impossible for him to exist.

I decided at a young age that if god is as real as any fictional character, then he does not exist.

I was raised to believe in god/jesus and to this day I do not believe in either. I say fuck religion, it is just something that fucks everything up.

Someone please explain to me how religion benefits the population?

I'm going to be honest. Religion did ONCE have a good affect on society. This was when it taught morals. But now, people know what's right and wrong without the help of a book, and have started to realize that religion just causes wars and arguments. Not to mention, now that we are smarter as a race, we can understand that god does not exist. Back then, we couldn't because we couldn't explain things like we can now.

It used to be good, and it used to teach us right from wrong, but as a species we must move on and improve.

@Shot there are mainstream spikes throughout society all the time. I truly despise people that hop on bandwagons and follow the crowd. Those people just happen to make up 90% of the population. Sickens me.
