So right now I'm on my phone, and just got curious. What is your guys' opinion on students using phones during school? Most cases phones are prohibited during school hours. But I don't abide by that rules Also for schools where phone use isn't allowed, what do you think about teachers using their phones during class where students can see.

I think you should pay attention in school and not be browsing the net.

I do believe that Phone use should be prohibited for students. Adults have business to take care of; ergo, rendering teacher use of cell phones acceptable.

We are allowed phones and computers.
If the teacher say it's needed for taking notes or something.

At my school if they even see your phone they take it up and if you're 18 you can get it at the end of the day and if you aren't, a parent must come get it.

But, there are the teachers who do not care if we have them out.
They just ask that if an administrator walks in the room to hide them.

I lol'd IRL

At my school, 2/3 of the teachers dont give a shit. I think that what we learn is our responsibility to learn. If we want to use our phones, then we suffer the consequences of not learning certain material

Considering I'm in college, some professors are different. You can be on the phone texting, while others think it distracts other students. Everyone wants the phones on silent.

My old High School prohibited cell phone usage during school hours. It was to be turned off throughout the course of the day, and if it was needed it was only to be used out side the building.

If a student was caught using a cellphone it would be taken away for 24 hours on the first offense, 72 hours on the next offense, and one full week on the third offense. Cell phone usage distracts the student from learning (which is proven). Additionally, it is incredibly rude (in my opinion) to use a cell phone while someone is trying to talk to you.

I wouldnt want it done to me, and I am sure people wouldnt want me to do it to them. Furthermore, it upholds a certain amount of decorum in the classroom setting which allows students to have maximum growth, and it doesnt hinder possible potential from the certain student.

I am happy they didnt let me use my cellphone during school hours, because now all I see is teens divulged in their blackberries and iPhones, and have lost a large aspect of what it means to communicate with other people.

During lesson time and between lessons, mobile phones should be prohibited just simply because of how much they distract the users and others around them, not only mobile phones but other items that can cause a distraction, During break(s) and lunch they should be able to use them as much as they please but as soon as the bell goes they shouldn't be seen.

Personally in my school I'm in the lower sixth, (Not sure many of you know what that is since im in the uk) But the lower and upper sixth form are allowed to use mobile phones which I don't believe is right (but thats my school's decision).

From my school letting me use my mobile phone I don't believe that I have done as well as I could of done as I was on my phone for most of the day including lesson time which made me get behind on work moving down sets.
But now I don't even take mine to school to stop the temptation.

I actually agree with this, but I still use my phone during class. Since I am passing all my classes with a pretty decent grade this year I think it's alright If I look away from the chalk board for a couple seconds every now and then. Also most teachers here don't mind if the students are on their phones, just not to much.

Despite what a lot of people say here... I bet they still use their phone in class xD

Of course I use my phone in class, I probably wont stop unless they start to take it at the beginning of class. Which I've got away with doing that too

I don't think they should have phone in classes at all. From experience kids will be on phone texting and not learn anything.

6th amendment: No unnecessary searches unless they have a search warrant. If schools don't abide by the Constitution, that'll be a load of trouble. If they suspect you have your phone, hide it into like your jeans or something, and they must tell you what they're looking for, and show a legit search warrant. Me personally though, I think they shouldn't be allowed, due to the amount of illiteracy already in America.
