Sammy Yatim: Police Brutality at Its Finest...

Early Saturday morning I heard shots fired in my area...Later that day I heard the story of what happen'd. As I got more into it, I felt as if justice was not served.

At around 12 am in the morning on Saturday July 27th, a teenager, Sammy Yatim, pulled a out a knife on a public streetcar and told other riders to exit the streetcar. After the streetcar was stalled and police arrived, there was a confrontation between police and Yatim. This confrontation ended by Yatim losing his life.

The question sparks to multiple people after watching the video...
Why did police use unnecessary and excessive force?

The reason why people are asking this question is of the following...

1. They had no reason to shoot him 7 times.
2. He was trapped.
3. He was armed only with a knife.

After multiple screams from the police saying "drop the knife", multiple shots where fired. After those shots, a taser.

To me this is one of the most f***ed up things I have seen cops do in my lifetime. The kid was armed with a knife...Just a knife and was trapped inside of a street car. It's not like he could run away. There was multiple cops and literally no need for gun use. I believe however that the police could've used a warning bullet or even a bullet to disarm him, but 7 shots towards one person who clearly wasn't going to hurt no one?

Anyways I advise users to watch the video below and read the article.
What are your thoughts?

Also the reason why they shot him is because he started to approach them... In the video you can see he was just walking forward not even fast or even running towards them.

Why can't cops just follow the law as well as the rest of us?

Update: Protesting/Marching is and has now been in place for teen.
A big crowd is now in front of one of the police divisions, shouting and chanting multiple things such as "Shame on you" and "F*** the police".

The cops have set up a barricade infornt of the division...
Someone throw a rock already!

Another Update: Cop has been suspended with pay...

I don't understand why it was needed...
They could've just taserd him and then rush him.

A protest will be happening at 5 today.

Well what would have happened if they didn't shoot him and he stabbed the innocent people.? Tasers can only reach so far. What if the criminal had a gun on his belt also.

He would have stabbed someone, and then they would have shot him. Shit, even if there was someone in danger of being stabbed, this could be somewhat warranted.

The fact is he was alone on the bus, surrounded and outnumbered with a small knife. I dont know what his intentions were, or if he was actively making threats when they shot him. Regardless, it is clear that the police went far behind reasonable means of neutralizing the situation.

Michelle don't be so rude!
Seriously though... A taser would've done the job without harm...
There was no reason to shoot him and certainly no reason to shoot him multiple times.

Also, his intentions weren't bad...
If he wanted to stab someone, he would've..

When he initially pulled out the knife, he told everyone on the streetcar to exit. If he was going to stab someone, it would've been then.

I don't think anyone is that stupid to run towards cops with guns drawn with a knife...

You're joking? He never tried to rob people... He pulled the knife out and told everyone else next to him to leave the streetcar. Maybe he was depressed and wanted to be alone..?

Is a street car some sort of Canadian bus? So he just came up to the car with a knife just cause he wanted to be alone. If someone came up to me with a knife and told me to get out of the car I don't think I would say sure thing.

I'm so done with you xD! Do you know what a streetcar is? It's a form of public transportation like a bus... He was on it and then pulled it out a little later of him being on it I'm guessing...

I've never seen you make a reasonable post yet. Hopefully that changes eventually. This was a clear show of excessive violence by the police. The police are supposed to discharge their firearm only under extreme circumstances, and firing on a person armed only with a close quarters weapon was unnecessary. They would have had ample time to disarm him or fire upon him if he even looked to attack somebody, but he didn't. This is so far beyond the use of reasonable force in detaining a suspect.

Things like this are becoming more common. There was that video of where the police fired upon that dog in front of his owner, like four times, which is once again, excessive violence. Thankfully, things like this don't seem as common in Australia.

His fault for sticking up a bus and not dropping the knife. It seems like suicide by cops to me. It happens often, when they ask you to drop the gun and you deny. Some kid in Texas did the same months back and he had a fake bb gun, it was assisted suicide.

Toronto's Chief of Police is conducting his own investigation.
The thing that sickens me right now is they suspended the cop with pay.

Also, I've seen the video with the dog being shot multiple times. Truly sad and definitely another example of police brutality.

I see your point but in that case they would have to of shot him once to injure him and stop him from doing more serious damage to himself. I don't think it was reasonable to shoot at him 9 times, hitting him multiply, then tasering him. He was trapped. They could've just enter'd through the back of the car and taser him.

He didn't drop the knife though, he knew what he was doing. I honestly think an assisted suicide, much easier way to end their life.
