Brough over from my post on freeBBz:

How do I know if I have a virus?
If you have a virus your computer will start to run slow
Your computer will have lots of pop-ups
Your email wont send
Your apps. wont work right
These are all signs of virus.

How do virus' come?
http://www.symantec.com/norton/security_response/index.jsp
Norton: http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp
-Visiting sites you are not suppose too
-Opening Spam emails or emails that contain a virus
-Pop-Ups

What do virus do?

Virus can do lots of things, such as slow you computer down, have security pop-ups often. It can lock your computer up for you cant do anything with it. Can also make it for disk drive, apps, Internet, and all that not work. And once you get a virus you can remove them sometimes, but sometimes you cant remove them.

How do I get protected?

You have to download a virus protector or buy one. I like the ones you buy because it protects more.

Free scans:
McAfee:http://home.mcafee.com/downloads/freescan.aspx?cid=60447
Norton:http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp
All scans are checking for tracking cookies and Virii.

Trials:
McAfee:http://home.mcafee.com/Store/FreeTrial.aspx?cid=60449
You can try it for 7 days for free and if you like it you can buy it for $50. I run this one on all my computer (but the next level up $75 not sure if they sale it any more)
AVG:http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free
If you like AVG once you are done you can buy it or download it.

Free download:
AVG(Download): http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html
Most downloads will protect your computer, but may not protect your hole computer.

Buy Security to protect from virus:

Norton: http://www.symantec.com/norton/360 << NOT for Mac computers
McAfee: http://home.mcafee.com/store/PackageDetail.aspx?pkgid=275&cid=60441
AVG: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free
Eset Security: http://www.eset.com/store

I agree with most of this, but when you said
-Visiting sites you are not suppose too
-Opening Spam emails or emails that contain a virus
-Pop-Ups

You cannot get a virus from just going to a site you're not supposed to. You can only get a virus if you click on something on that site.

Also the best thing for finding out if you have a virus is MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

Might want to check out malwarebytes best around

Yep, that's what I posted.

And actually to be honest, 75% of the viruses you get are just going to spam you with annoying stuff, but when you do get a dangerous virus Keylogger, Downloader, Backdoor, etc. You need to get it off A.S.A.P

Emisoft IMO, I would just be cautious around dodgy exe's. I remember some idiot tried to show me a picture when it was an exe file.

Great tutorial.

But you also have a virus if you have strange activities.

Such as webcam messages and you cant access task manager, just saying from experience.

You can to get a virus from going to sites your not suppose to. But we all have our own oppion.

And thats my oppion.

It's not an opinion, it's a fact. You can't get a virus unless you click Run on something.

AKA Java-Drivebys.

But I don't want to start discussing hacks =S.

I also don't want to backseat moderate but let's get back on topic before a mod locks this XD.

Were still on topic :) The topic is ways to prevent viruses. Also if Malwarebytes doesn't detect it, it's a virus.

Hmm my advices:

Never open strange funny look things
Never open things you have never heard about
Get a good AV... The health of your computer is really important
And also use those Scans online on the link with the file you might get on the internet, sorry I forgot the name.

Thanks NoReturn for sharing

WRONG. I've seen some websites that have really good java db's.. It doesn't even pop up anythig to click... Next thing I see, my AV is blocking incoming virus :D
