We could be in a very sticky situation. - Archived by Noreturn

As the amount of users receiving this "too many connections" error ever increases, it's simply because of the amount of queries our SQL is performing (our max_user_connections is set to 25 by Hostgator, which is terrible). The answer is to move hosting, I think our paid month runs out rather soon so it's handy timing. But I've listened to every piece of advice I've received and a VPS seems to be the answer.

However, I really don't have the money (I don't lie when I say I'm skint, Paypal wise) and it would require a donation drive to pay for a VPS. Believe it or not for the improvements we've made on MF (merging, plugins, themes) is all coming out of my pocket. Selling games I don't play regularly and such on Ebay (call me what you want). So yeah, I'm rather dedicated to market forums. I'm not on my knees begging for donations as I have a bit more class than that, but for Market Forums to continue at a rapid pace, we're going to need to move on to a VPS.

All donations are welcomed! Users will receive their perks for donating :).

It's not our member count though, it's the amount of fresh connections and members performing everyday things like opening a thread. All enters queries in SQL which results in max-connections errors.

I believe that it is better if we just buy web hosting from another company such as GoDaddy. However, you must ask them how many connections they allow.

Great move.. This forum is getting bigger. And the VPS is the best solution.

@Reviewer: GoDaddy is possibly the worst hosting on the web.

@Rampage: No, just no. Need Paypal donations, ad clicking is slower.

@Gamemaster: Yeah exactly :)

Over the next couple of days i will be selling lots of things in the market place. All proceeds will go towards the site so be generous :)

You don't need a super good VPS, you can get a decent one for like $15 a month.

It is offshore.

PM me if you want me to tell you. o_O

$5-10 is a reasonable price, anything over is really pro.

For $5 - $10 you are going to get a linux VPS with 128 -512MB RAM

Enough to run a forum.

With those cheap prices most of the time it will come unmanaged. I'd prefer to have support on a VPS, where I can ask for assistance if needed.

ya hosting for a big site like this isn't cheap. We cant just have a cheap host running a big site unless we want the site to always be down.. So I agree with Crayo we need a host that is reliable and has good support.

Find a host that'll take a credit card, I'll buy the hosting for you.

A forum of this size requires 1GB, or more.

Good luck Crayo I have been in this situation before, wish you the best. But I must admit hostgator sucks ass bro. They are known to be trigger happy, keep exceeding your limits and they will suspend you. My forum is hosted on Hawkhost and is on the shared server. IM on the standard plan there http://www.hawkhost.com/Shared/compare if you know www.forumpromotion.net they are one of the biggest forums and to let you know they too are hosted by hawkhost and are on the same plan as me, and are not on a VPS. VPS is not a need, its a want. Depends from host to host, and hawkhost is great. If you dont believe me ask the people over at forumpromotion.
