More people have morals and ethics because of religion. I think that the world would be horrible if there was no religion.

No. I believe the world is better WITH Religion.

This is because I believe that people in the world are better people when believing in something higher. If there wasn't Religion there would be chaos.

Religion makes people believe in something. Most of the world would die if there wasn't Religion.

Just my opinion.

Where do you think you'd be without them? The world would be a completely different place.

Even with all the holy wars started?

With absolutely no reason to have a moral code imagine how many more would have been started.

Of course the world would be better off without religion, are you kidding me? What a fucked up concept, that people are too weak to behave on their own and they need god to keep them in line and give them purpose! Thats part of the message so the cycle continues, @Beats and @Skunk I deem you useless human beings for such answers. And @jarlene. Look at all of the atheists...we are just fine and studies show us to be happier. The countries with the most atheist population in the world are also the countries that repeatedly show they are the happiest and most functional. Religion is a poison and a disease. I wish I could take all atheists to another habitable planet with me and leave the garbage here. How disappointing that it has been THOUSANDS of years and you guys still haven't been able to do your part and break one more link in the cycle.

Im not going to back my answer with anything, i've done it too many times and this thread has been made too many times. Always goes in one ear and out the other

The idea that it would be better off without religion whatsoever is insane. Religion has done a huge part in bringing society to where it is now. I believe it's a very important part in society. Some people just need something to believe in.

I am a useless human being for having an opinion? You are extremely immature and ignorant.

Not for having an opinion, but for the substance that it consists of. I think you meant to call me arrogant, a lot of ignorant people confuse those two words.

I meant intolerant rather than ignorant but I got autocorrected. Now that I think about it arrogant seems to fit better though since you are outraged every time someone has an opinion that opposes your beliefs.

Religion is full of lies. Big lies, too. Not just little white lies. Lies about everything from how humans came to be to the birthdate of Jesus. These lies lead to misconceptions and closeminded-ness when it comes to our natural world. If these lies hadn't been put forth in the first place, I believe that we would be much more advanced than we are. These false ideals only hold us back.

Without religion, humans wouldn't be as hateful, prejudice, or ignorant as they are today. Did you know that 1/3 of Americans dismiss the scientific fact of evolution? They blatantly reject scientific evidence because their religion says otherwise. That is pure ignorance. Religious doctrines teach hate of other religious groups, gays, etc. Without these ideas, our society would be so much better. People could finally be accepted for who they are, rather than being called evil. Religion teaches basic hate, and without religion, there would surely be less hate.

These are only a few examples of the bad things caused by religion. The list is truly endless.

Blatantly so. Religion is the parent of wrongdoing, intolerance and ignorance. It sprouts all evil, (I dare you to name one evil concept it doesn't ignite) it is the justification of all things wrong and it is humanity's grandest hindrance in our voyage to comprehend the Cosmos scientifically and philosophically; deny this? Well -- I suggest you inquire on the advancement gap it left in the Dark Ages.

Withal, I think religion was a necessary and inevitable element in the progression of mankind. It has made rationality, logic and reason martyrs to those who comprehend the dread of religion.

It doesn't take religion or a dictated material moral code to understand murder and lying is wrong.

War happens for political, religious, and geographical purposes, not for lack of morality. Essentially never for any other purposes. They would not mindlessly go around killing and initiating wars because a moral code isn't dictated to them. That's malarkey. Look at our hominid ancestors. Undoubtedly the had some sense of morality for their pack, family. Morality is an intrinsic principle in nature of man thanks to Evolution, for it granted us intelligence as a favorable trait to survive and thrive, instead of the contrapositives.

You're basing all these assertions off a foundation of bias and void. Having something to say and having to say something are completely different.

You still dont seem to understand. Intolerant to bullshit, yes. You disregarded all the wars/battles/violence caused by religion on the assumption that there would have been more without it. It frustrates me that something so stupid could be said. You just figuritively wiped the slate clean for religion based upon an assumption that cannot be proven. Idiotic to say the least. And I could use your method to counteract anything I disgree with. Its a basic, illogical, one-size-fits-all thing to say. Hence, useless.

All religions are founded on the fear of the many and the cleverness of the few

How is "Having something to say and having to say something completely different"?

Religion does not cause evil. There is no possible way that Religion could cause evil. In most religions, there is Good and Evil. The Good are the people who are seen as The Passengers of God. Now you may not believe in God but others do. People that believe is "something" higher than them strive to do well in life. On the other hand there are people who do wrong. They may or may not believe in a God but they dong do "wrong" because of Religion. It is themselves who do wrong. You can't blame someone's religion for what they did wrong.

I am a Catholic and I am not perfect. I do good and I do bad. But that doesn't mean that I am evil. When I do something wrong I feel bad and repent for my wrong-doings.

Evil, as most people say, is caused by the devil. The devil is not a God nor is Evil a Religion. Evil things are done by people who disobey Gods rules and commit sin.

So basically, Religion does not cause evil. Evil is caused by people who go against the greater good.

I think the world might be worse without religion. Because then people would have to put their faith in other human beings. And human beings are lying, selfish, and rude SOBs.
