I know several people who were atheists and as an adult became religious.

Science still cannot explain how life began. Yes, big bang, blah blah... but how did dead blobs of matter gain intelligence, and then sentience? You can't get that through evolution. The changes of a rock evolving into a plant which will then evolve into a human billions of years from now is pretty slim. I am a theistic evolutionist, meaning I believe in the big bang as well as evolution, but something had to add the spark of life and intelligence.

I never said science could explain life or the universe.

But a book can't do that either.

Nothing has to "spark" life. Just because we don't understand it fully, doesn't mean we should make up some unbelievable idea that a giant man (or something else) sparked it. It's just something we simply can't understand yet.

You can say the same about God as well. Just because you can't understand him doesn't mean you should discredit him.

That is a valid point.

But, there is a whole lot of science that does disprove "magic", and that's really what God is based on.

I said a few posts back I'd like someone to post a scientific fact that they think can be used to disprove religion, and I will show how it doesn't.

Disproving religion is a big task, as so many religions believe so many different things.

I'm not here to disprove other beliefs. I don't believe in religion because I don't like the idea of any of them. I don't like the idea because I know how big this universe is, and I hate that some people think we're the most important things in the entire universe...

There's probably thousands of planets at least that support life, and yet we treat it like we have some special thing going on where a ghostly man created us as the most important and immortal race in all of the universe. I just don't believe it, to me, it's silly.

I just consider myself reasonable.

I believe there could be life on other planets. We just have so much in our hands with this one In all honesty, even if we discover life communicating with them will be very difficult and we will never be able to make contact due to distance.

I consider my religious beliefs reasonable as well

Of course we wouldn't be able to contact them. I'm just saying that the way we treat ourselves like we're the most important things, it's quite obvious that we just made up religion to explain things we could not explain.

Now that we can actually explain things, it's very noticeable that there are more Atheists than back when humans weren't as educated.

I find it hard to believe in something that was created so long ago, by people who didn't understand what we do today. I would feel like I'm freezing our advancements as humans.

It doesn't hold back science.

It holds us back. People put their lives into religion, they live a life based on something that was created so long ago by someone who just didn't understand the world at the time.

I can show multiple results of studies, including non-bias graphs that show the great drop off in advancement during periods of time that revolved around religion. It is a fact that the disease of religion has caused a great set-back in technological advancement and evolving as a race as a whole. You can not bring up the few positive things that have cone of a religion and let that define it's effect on the world as a whole. We can sit here and make a list of everything good and bad that have come of religion and there will be more negatives, both in quantity and significance.

All of the genocide, famine, disease, corruption, power, greed, setbacks, breaches of freedom and personal rights, privacy, an overall limit on what/where our race could be right now if religion ceased to exist. (Society, Government, Technology have all been held back. This is a fact.)

You are right on the fact that it is portraying religion as silly.

But it's true. All that religion has to prove itself is a book. No matter what religion.
