Capital punishment is the sentence of death, or practice of execution, handed down as punishment for a criminal offence. It can only be used by a state, after a proper legal trial. The United Nations in 2008 adopted a resolution (62/149) calling for a moratorium on the use of the death penalty, however fifty-eight countries, including the United States and China, still exercise the death penalty. As such, the topic remains highly controversial. Abolitionist groups and international organizations argue that it is cruel and inhumane, while proponents claim that it is an effective and necessary deterrent for the most heinous of crimes.

I think it's only fair to those that have killed/brutally murdered someone..Make sense if you think about it, If not then there is not elligable reason to give it to people that have just stabbed someone or whatever people get death sentences for these days

Life for a life; if someone has physically and mentally ruined someone's life then their life should be taken. I wish NJ would have this law; that way our gang rate could decrease.

The death sentence is perfectly fine to me, acceptable and reasonable as well. Tbh the way it's handed out to criminals though is weird to me, you get it for something really horrible like a murder (if the state allows death sentencing) or if you kill 5 people or w/e, but I feel like rapists should also have the possibility of the death sentence.

Yea, but what is you accidentally kill someone. For example, speeding and you accidentally ram into someone's car and they die.

Should I clarify? If you purposely take a life then your life should be taken. If your intentions were to kill someone that day you deserve to die.Even if it's the wrong person ex. your bullet missed and hit someone else you should still get the death penalty.

Yea, but what if you didn't. There is no way to prove that it was an accident. Not unless you take a lie detector test, but sometimes those are wrong.

You can tell if someone stabs someone or shoots someone. You don't get the death penalty for anything you know?

The girl claims she didn't mean to do it, so that is equivalent to saying your speeding and you accidentally hit someone. Are they going to believe you that it isn't and accident, and you don't need the death sentence just because you were in a car.

Not true, with cameras and such you can tell. If someone is going 100+ mph and just rams someone on the sidewalk you can tell he/she wanted to kill. If someone is going 25 and trying to crash it's car into trees to try and stop but end up hitting someone you can tell it's an accident.

Yea, but with your last statement it is still murder and deserves the death sentence. You had a choice to crash in the tree at 25 mph which wouldn't probably kill you.

"If you purposely take a life then your life should be taken." That person didn't intentionally kill them. Yes it could kill you.
