But yeah this is pretty much fact. When people register they should be prompted with how to stay safe in the marketplace.
It's common sense but people still get scammed...

rep doesn't mean anything to me, I think their registration date means a lot. experience plays a big part in "trust" if you ask me.

No matter the member I generally request a MM unless they feel comfortable going first to me. I think rep does matter on any site which is unfortunate because gaining rep is one of the easiest thing to do. I have no pity for anyone who gets scammed unless the member was very recognized as trusted throughout the community. If someone has negative rep, nobody will deal with him, but if someone has a lot of rep everyone will automatically deem them trusted and go first to them. Therefore, rep does have a major impact on people within the site whether it should or not. I am willing to bet less people look at vouch threads than they do look at the user's reputation.
