What happens when we die?

Hey,

I have been wondering, what if when we die, nothing actually happens?
We just not exist anymore.. like we were before we were even born.

Another question, do you fear death? What makes you fear it?
I know different people who fear different aspects about death.
I just fear the whole process of death hurting.

I want to hear your theories and ideas
Thank you!

Like you said, when we die, nothing happens. It's a hard concept to wrap your head around, but for example, when you're alive in your mothers womb, you couldn't see, hear, remember, etc. Your body was alive but your brain wasn't. The same is for death, except nothing in your body is alive. Yes I fear death. The reason is because it's the end of my time here. No one wants to die, as we'll miss out on experiences we'll never be able to have. It's inevitable however. Also, death hurting is subjective to how you die. If you, for example, get hit by a car or shot in the head or die in an explosion, it's instantaneous, and you only feel pain for mere milliseconds. For deaths like torture, being burned alive, you'll feel pain throughout. For the majority of people however, they die of old age or organ failure. What happens is when your body is about to die, is your brain releases endorphins into your bloodstream. It get's you higher than ever before, you feel no pain, and you don't care about death.

When we die no one really knows where we go although people do have their theories, I've never really thought of where we go when we die it just doesn't tend to cross my mind and I could care less about it.

Fear Death? Now that's totally different for me. I don't really fear the concept of death just the ways it can happen for example I'd be more afraid of drowning then having someone hold me at gunpoint and shooting me.

Logic would dictate that we'd remember nothing, and our consciousness would be non-existent. If we are basically just our mind, and our mind stops functioning, then we'd have no consciousness of anything. No memories, dreams, nothing. We'd be like a rock, no consciousnesses.

But, logic can't explain how the universe could be created from nothing. I mean, you have to think. Basic science says that matter cannot be created nor destroyed...so how did it get here? Obviously, matter had to have been created somehow along with vacuums, energy, etc.

Also, I fear the pain of death but not death itself.

You used an incredible amount of commas in that long type speech, just saying lol but, I'll stand by what I think in that there is an afterlife.

Oh, please no. I do not want to do everything again.

Well I didn't mean that necessarily. I believe in Catholicism of course so Heaven is in the equation when you'd talk to me about this. Reincarnation I've thought about for a little bit however and it seems like a possibility, if we do all have souls, there is always a chance they could wonder around after your "first" life you know.

They'd tie together for me by if you are Heaven bound but just aren't ready for whatever reason, so you are brought back for more experience or to learn whatever you needed.

I believe in something close to what Chronos said. The difference here is that his theory provides some science and logic behind it, whereas religious theories are based off of "faith." not a strong case, however I will say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We will all find out one day.

Afterlifes were made up because we want to make ourselves feel immortal. We want to feel that even after death, we can still live.

I personally say, when you die, your body stops working and you no longer exist anywhere. I prefer not to believe in an afterlife, because I know we aren't immortal.

There is no afterlife, an afterlife would involve the connection between minds across all of the dead. A connection that is impossible when alive. When we die, we die. We wont know that were dead, we wont care that were dead, it wouldnt even be blackness, to fear death is pointless, because you wont ever notice. Also if your afraid of dying, then have children. Children are the evolution of the parents. Therefore your child will be you, but greater. You get to know that your dna will always be in your family.

Interesting. But if we're going to get into genetics then mine are nothing like the rents. I guess I'm the ultimate life form?

I believe that death is nothingness. Just like before you were born. Anyone who believes in an afterlife is using that as a crutch, out of fear.

Not necessarily, I believe in an afterlife but not out of fear. I'm not going say I don't fear death because I don't know for sure what happens when we die but the reason I believe in a afterlife is because I'm somewhat more at peace believing that I might see my loved ones and family again.

Fear is discomfort. Comfort fixes discomfort. It bothers you that you might not ever be sble to have contact with them after life. So you make this afterlife thing up to take that feeling away.

Like a placebo. I'm not saying it's bad or wrong. Do what you gotta do. That's just where I'm coming from.

So your telling me you believe in the afterlife because it makes you at peace. Or is it because your afraid of what would happen if you never got to see them again and to believe in an afterlife is what you need to calm your fear. Every choice man makes has to do with fear. Before arguing with me about this think about it.

I'd have to agree with Zeus. I mean, we don't know for sure, so I might as well believe in an afterlife, and if it's true, then that'd be wonderful. If not, then oh well, we wouldn't even notice we were believing in something that wasn't real since we'd be dead. And if it is true, we get to see our loved ones, and live an amazing after life after going trough all this bullshit. Everyone else who didn't believe, well, better luck next time. (Hypothetical)

Your view on the matter seems good in theory, but I just can't bullshit myself like that. I have too much respect for myself. Different people I guess.

Everything everbody does or thinks about involves the brain. The brain shuts down during death which means you wouldnt be able to think of an afterlife and the loved ones there. The entire idea of being in a afterlife is impossible once your brain is shut down. The only way its possible is if your brain is taken and scientifically kept running like in the movie source code or in the movie repo men. I dont mean to burst your bubble, but ive seen death many times. Theres nothing there.
