I'm not going say I don't fear death because I don't know for sure what happens when we die but the reason I believe in a afterlife is because I'm somewhat more at peace believing that I might see my loved ones and family again
Cole said:I'd have to agree with Zeus. I mean, we don't know for sure, so I might as well believe in an afterlife, and if it's true, then that'd be wonderful. If not, then oh well, we wouldn't even notice we were believing in something that wasn't real since we'd be dead. And if it is true, we get to see our loved ones, and live an amazing after life after going trough all this bullshit. Everyone else who didn't believe, well, better luck next time. (Hypothetical)
Cole said:So, believe in him because you don't want to be wrong in the end.
example;
Logically there is no way he could exist, but at the same you don't want to be wrong when judgement day comes, so you're not taking a chance of going to hell, when you could just say "I believe in God"

It is said that one should never curse or talk against a person who is no longer in the world and should only remember the person in a good way. I do not fear death but do not want to die in any accident or anything like that. Only want a peaceful death in my sleep.
I wonder who first mentioned these words to you Paul. Glad to see you picked some information up. You're welcome.Chronos said:Like you said, when we die, nothing happens. It's a hard concept to wrap your head around, but for example, when you're alive in your mothers womb, you couldn't see, hear, remember, etc. Your body was alive but your brain wasn't. The same is for death, except nothing in your body is alive. Yes I fear death. The reason is because it's the end of my time here. No one wants to die, as we'll miss out on experiences we'll never be able to have. It's inevitable however. Also, death hurting is subjective to how you die. If you, for example, get hit by a car or shot in the head or die in an explosion, it's instantaneous, and you only feel pain for mere milliseconds. For deaths like torture, being burned alive, you'll feel pain throughout. For the majority of people however, they die of old age or organ failure. What happens is when your body is about to die, is your brain releases endorphins into your bloodstream. It get's you higher than ever before, you feel no pain, and you don't care about death.

How about bacteria--do they go to an afterlife? The bible doesn't describe heaven being full disease.
Cells. How about cells--do they get an afterlife? Millions of cells die each second, but do they get an afterlife? If there was no cells, there would be no such thing as life or humans. And in the afterlife how would we look like ourselves if cells don't get an afterlife or all the small things that make humans, humans and only humans get an afterlife? Of course there is probably some bullcrap excuse to this.
Okay, okay. so what if there is a heaven--is it possible to die again? What if I drown in some pond? Are my lungs just going fill up and I'm not going to die? Or do I just respawn like it's a video game? And just like video games, they're fake. Made up. Not real.
Religion used the concept of a afterlife to control the masses of mankind.
There is no celestial paradise, firmament, purgatory, heaven, hell or afterlife. The concept of an afterlife was used to comfort theists and Christians, and trick them into believing that if they worship this guy called Jesus who died for our sins by saying that if you devote your life and love him more than your family that you'll go to heaven once you die. And we can't give solid proof that there is an afterlife since it's unfalsifiable(Just like God and almost every other illogical theist belief.) Which makes the concept of an afterlife so ideal.

I myself am a christian and I was taught about life after death. I believe that our life is just a test from God. If we live our life with faith we will be welcomed into God's Kingdom, if we have no faith we will be sent to hell. We are put on this earth for a reason. What if we cease to exist at physical death? Being mortal with no soul and there is no afterlife. It is the same as never existing in the first place. In my opinion, thinking the preceding in deep thought while alone with one having no hope of the possibility of an afterlife is the most unsettling thought there is. If you say that I only believe in an afterlife because I am afraid of death then you must have no soul. I know that there is a heaven because I have faith.

Pastors are also well known for child molestation, does that mean that such actions should be condoned and performed by the general public? No. The same is the case for scientific debates. Just because your pastor feeds you the unintelligent babble that stems from the book you worship doesn't mean that we want to hear it or value your opinion. Kindly leave and never return to scientific debates. Thanks.
