I'll just hop in here, being an admin on bigger sites than the current one I run. Whilst being an admin, it's impossible to pick staff by yourself, it really is. You become anxious, and eventually ask for opinions from around the team. This is how I've done it, and I've been apart of on a few decently sized sites.

Precisely. All MyBB staff are voted on by the team, Tim or Chris don't just choose yes or no. We do all generally agree though, it's usually an obvious yes or no

If it's just the staff, then that would be nice, but becoming a popularity could be a problem in any voting system. Still though, the current system isn't that flawed. It's better than picking from a hat.

Well, then again on MyBB due to the nature of the project all staff apply (the only one I know who didn't apply but was contacted by us first was Nathan Malcolm) so that might make a difference.

Really, many members could easily make a respectable staff member. Who gets chosen shouldn't be a big deal anyways. You can't just predict the future.

I think we can agree that everyone that was recently chosen for mod at least deserves a chance to prove themselves.

I remember when TTG held public staff applications. All hell broke lose after the staff picks because so many people were pissed about not being chosen. Honestly, giving everyone a chance can lead to mass problems especially one a website like this.

If we were to do a voting system, it should be done privately between current staff, and the voting should only be done for people getting into Envious.

Yes everyone deserves a chance. So say for example, I wanted to join Envious, but wasn't allowed in. Even if every staff and mod also agreed that I deserved a chance, if Christy didn't like me, then I wouldn't get a chance(I just used me as an example so that i wouldnt possibly offend anyone). Now tell me how that is fair?

The only issue I have is, there are a good amount of members who have been here for awhile (including myself) that are active, very polite and smart about the rules on Fk, and have never been offered a trial staff/mod position or a spot in Envious. Seniority doesn't make you better at staff or mod but I would hope it would make them more of a choice to be looked at for staff.

Also please keep in mind i'm not saying that being on FK a longer time means you're fit for staff.

Saying that Christy doesn't like you is like saying Philly doesn't like you. Obviously, you did something to make him or her dislike you, and that's not completely their fault.

Exactly. I don't see how it's possible that you are not in Envious or a staff member tbh, you have more reported posts than anyone(which is how Christy first got her chance at mod), you are in Power+, you have been here for a long time, nearly everyone likes you, and yet you still don't even get a chance. I got a chance before and made one single mistake and so I was demoted for it and now I would like just a chance to redeem myself, but no, I can't get into Envious because ONE person doesn't want me in.

And they may be jealous of you for some reason, or not like you cause you were here before them, or are more likeable... There are plenty of reasons that someone may not like another person for even when that other person did nothing wrong.

Right about the presidential part;however, he does pick his cabinet. Which is similar to Admins and Mods. Just wanted to leave that there. I take no sides in these discussions, I'm a neutral guy.

This isn't the United States of America. We don't have 300 million people to manage, and I don't think we'll ever get there. Also, it's not like the United States hasn't had a bad president before.

Still, it adds up over time. You being given a chance may make the person without a single warning throughout their time on FK feel like that's unfair. I personally think that warning levels and past warnings truly shows how well a member understands the rules of the forum .-.

Why do people think UID makes you better than one another? And yes, this is directed towards you Thor. I've never once had a problem with you, but this is getting out of hand ever since this Veteran group. As Ocean has stated, no one sees the mod logs or any of that. You don't know what they are doing or how much they are doing. If they aren't doing their job well enough or correctly, they would be demoted. Everyone on the staff team has gotten there for a reason. Philly & Christy run the forum if I'm not mistaken and Paul H. does all the behind-the-scene stuff. There is only so many staff members to moderate over 0.5 million posts and almost 20,000 members.

Also, a forum isn't all about staff. I think many members of any forum forget this. They only hunger for power on a forum, and when they aren't given a chance, they get aggravated, and it leads to threads like this. Where is the logic in that? As a staff member, you only walk the line between being the bad and good guy on the forum. You clean up other people's stupid shit on the forum, and you are pressured to make the right choice all the time. It's not an easy job, and I don't understand why people want it so much. I'm sure it's the natural power hunger in people. .-.

I'm in no way aggravated, I just want to fix this flawed system. I'm not gonna say who of course, but someone with plenty of power on this site helped me create this thread, so that statement is not entirely true.

You had a chance to prove yourself, and you blew it. Why should you get a second chance when post people haven't even received a first? I thought you were about being fair?

Gr33d, I hope you're not directing this to be about you because I see this as a small issue for future staff picks...

Also, the people that say you did a good job are the same ones that don't have access to the moderator logs, the staff chat, and the mod cp to see what's really going on. You can't base how well you are doing as a staff member off of that.
